Michael K. Hewitt
Lighting Designer of the Associated Designers of Canada
Michael is a graduate of Capilano University’s Technical Theatre Programme, a member of the Associated Designers of Canada, and an award-winning professional Lighting Designer since 2007. Regional select credits include but are not limited to: Butcher (Prime Cuts Collective), Antigone, Concord Floral (Douglas College), Merrily We Roll Along (United Players), Coming Up For Air (Kay Meek), Kamwatan Nipe (Artsclub Reading), The Magic Flute (UBC Opera at Bard on the Beach), Mane Stage (Chor Leoni at Bard on the Beach), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, The Laramie Project, Uncommon Women, Hair, The Wiz, Spring Awakening, Rocky Horror Show, Carrie: The Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar (FCP), The IT Girl (Dramanatrix), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cabaret, A Christmas Carol, Thoroughly Modern Millie (Exit 22). Award-winning designs include: Kayak, Unity 1918, and The Cemetery Club (BST), The Outsiders (HSP). Michael has a passion for out-of-the-box theatre and applies the same format to his design applications. Michael is also a freelance stage technician with expertise in both lighting and playback systems. He is the current venue technician in the Howard Family Stage at Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival. In addition to theatrical lighting design, he has also directed and designed for festivals, dance, and concerts.
